A new alternative Bitcoin client called DOG Mode has been proposed to change relay policy without modifying consensus rules. The initiative is tied to the dispute over non-financial data in blocks, including Ordinals and Runes activity.

Its proposed settings would allow nodes to relay larger transactions and reduce the dust limit to one satoshi. No network-wide vote is required because individual node operators choose their own software and transaction-relay rules. At publication time, DOG Mode remains an announced open-source initiative rather than a finished release.

The project shows that Bitcoin’s next governance dispute may develop through competing node policies and software clients instead of a formal consensus change.
