Coinbase says it has received UK authorisation to provide investment services.
The company says this will allow UK users to access derivatives and equities alongside crypto through one platform, with institutional and advanced users gaining access to products such as perpetual futures. The approval sits next to Coinbase’s existing UK e-money licence and crypto registration.
This matters because large crypto exchanges are becoming regulated multi-asset platforms, not only venues for spot token trading.
The second-order effect is competitive pressure on both sides: brokers may need stronger crypto products, while exchanges take on heavier duties around suitability, leverage, market conduct and product disclosure. A single-login experience can simplify access, but it also concentrates user risk inside one financial app.
