Base has launched Beryl and the B20 Native Token Standard on mainnet. B20 is Base’s own ERC-20-compatible token standard, built for stablecoin issuers, real-world assets, tokenized equities and other fungible assets. Unlike a regular ERC-20 contract, B20 runs through native precompiles and includes issuer tools such as minting, burning, role-based permissions, transfer policies, supply caps and memos.
The important part is not just another token format. Base is trying to move token issuance closer to the chain’s core infrastructure, which may reduce repeated custom contract work for regulated issuers. The second-order risk is control design: tools like freezing, policies and issuer roles can help compliance, but also make asset governance more centralized.
Next, watch who actually launches B20 assets first and whether wallets, exchanges and DeFi apps support them smoothly.
